Affordable Housing Application Process

1. GENERAL INFORMATION

Out of the 269 units at 7000 Hawaii Kai Drive, 54 two- and three-bedroom units are designated as Affordable Housing units under City and County of Honolulu guidelines. Applications for these units require approval by the City and County of Honolulu and requires re-certification every year. There is currently a wait list for the two bedroom units.

 

The current rents for these units are:

2 Bedroom - $1,764

3 Bedroom - $2,635

 

The rent includes the sewer fee but does not include other utilities such as water and electricity. However, the units are separately metered and you only pay for what you use. The unit comes with one parking stall. A second parking stall, if available, would be an additional charge.

 

The units include a washer/dryer, refrigerator, stove/oven and air conditioners. All appliances are in white. Dishwashers or microwave ovens are not included. You may bring in a microwave oven but a dishwasher may not be installed.

 

2. ELIGIBILITY

You are generally eligible if you can answer “Yes” to the following questions (more detailed requirements contained in the Statement of Eligibility form). However, final determinations are made by the City and County of Honolulu.

a. Are you a family of related people or have a history of living together for at least the previous year?

b. Do you have a minimum of 2 people for the two bedroom unit or 3 people for the three bedroom unit?

c. Is your total gross household income under:

□ $64,400 for a family of 2

□ $72,450 for a family of 3

□ $80,450 for a family of 4

□ $86,900 for a family of 5

□ $93,350 for a family of 6

□ $99,800 for a family of 7

d. You do not own any residential property?

 

3. APPLICATION PROCESS

a. Complete the following forms:

b. Submit the completed and signed forms with the required documents below (Mail or drop off your applications at Avalon Commercial, 800 Bethel Street, Suite 501, Honolulu, HI 96813):

□ Copies of your 2014 and 2015 federal tax returns

□ Proof of monthly income (two of your most recent pay stubs or other proof of

income documenting your monthly income).

□ Copies of your Driver's License or Other Government Issued Photo ID

□ Proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status

□ If names of occupants are different, proof of relationship such as marriage

certificate or birth certificates.

□ If divorced with children, copy of divorce decree proving that children live at

least 50% of the time with applicant.

c. Pay the application fee of $25 per adult applicant. This covers the required credit

and background checks. You will need a debit or credit card to pay this fee online here.

d. Before beginning the online application, please allow enough time to complete the

application as you will not be able to save your work. For security reasons, the

webpage will time out when you leave your application idle for some time. You will

lose your work and have to start over.

e. The application process works best on the following browsers: Internet Explorer 10

or 11, Firefox, Safari, or Chrome.
